(2024) Oil on canvas. 48" x 66"

The third painting in my "Urges" series. This one depicts my desire to play video games all day to escape my problems. It's painted from the point of view of the tv. Like the other paintings in this series, cats are featured in this piece. I love cats, and in a fantasy world my cats would always be around me. And also cats historically have represented both female sexuality and lesbian stereotypes. Like how this characterization of me is mindlessly playing games with stuffed animals to snuggles with. The prominent one is Sprigatito, a cat pokemon, places in between my legs.

Since this urge involves forgetting reality, it's only fitting this piece allowed me to explore loose paint and slight abstraction. The purples and reds of the couch dissolve towards the ends. The immediate "real" space forgotten as I sit gaming; if no one thinks about it does it exist? Again, these are all representations of me. No one is singular in identity. But it didn't matter if I was painted to look like me, because in this painting I am trying to be someone else. Forget who I am, what I have to do.
