2025. Oil and acrylic on canvas. 40.5"x72"

This painting features Miles, a model local to Rochester, NY. We met at Highland park. The snowdrops were had just bloomed. The swirling, vibrant greens, field of snowdrops, and shadows of the branches add a sense of surreal wonder to this real life scene and person.

The reclining position of the figure recalls the long history of objectification of a reclining (typically nude) female figure. In this case, the figure is not a woman. They retain a sense of agency with their direct eye contact with the viewers.

Snowdrops are the first flowers to bloom in the spring. The beauty of the light and flowers, and inferred intimacy and confidence from the figure allows this painting to capture the joy of being oneself.

A person who is often overlooked. Flowers that can be easly missed in the transition from winter to spring. And yet the colors, and prescence of the figure, the flowers, and theie environment allows us to see and appreciate the everyday beauty and importance of the small things in life.
