"Sentinel" (2025) Oil on canvas. 72"x84"

This painting was created after my childhood dog, Freckles, passed away. He was an English Springer; one of the type of dogs that appeared in old, British hunting paintings. This is loosely inspired by those paintings, at least in the sense it happens outside with packs of dogs running around.

He loved running in the snow. Winter is also symbolic of death, or an end. The dogs are arranged in a circular composition, almost protecting the figure that has stopped to look at us. The dogs all do their own thing, and depict a range of ages. The dogs all have the same patterning, representing time and memory more than lots of dogs.

On demand print is available for this piece.
