This arrangement of flowers was painted from life. I arranged them myself from discount bouquets from the grocery store. The flowers were painted based on what I saw, but were also flattened or left as a collection of marks. My favorite instance of this are the circular mums in the center. I  also decided to leave the background blank, so you are reminded that this is oil paint on canvas.
 
Much of my work aims to explore painting: both its history and materiality. With this painting I wanted to explore the beauty of the flowers while still incorporateing the obvious paitned nature of the materials.
