"Flower Still Lives with Ruysch and Body Builders" (2026) Oil on canvas. ~12"x24"

This painting was a way to explore combining references in the genre of still life. The flowers and patterned background were all painted from direct life observation in one sitting. The small easel with a Rachel Ruysch painting and right section of body builders was painted from images.

Flower still lives often represented beauty, and due to restrictions on women, it became associated with feminine things. The body builders exist in a mental, digital space. Body building is also about beauty, although in a different way with different goals. Especially when it comes to women's beauty and body building standards, people often have strong, aggressive opinions.
