(2024) Oil on canvas. 16" x 20"

I’m drawn to painting flowers because they are something we consider beautiful. I can’t get enough of the colors and forms of different petals and blooms. I also strive to make beautiful paintings. Oil paint and flowers just make sense to me.

With this piece I was interested in color, pattern, and texture. I love super busy, almost overwhelming painted surfaces. Which is why there are flowers on the background fabrics and pitcher as well.

This painting was painted from life in front of me in my studio. The title is inspired by Sargent’s “Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose” (1885-6) and the thick paint of Van Gogh’s flower still lives.

Carnation, Daisy, Carnation, Limonium
