2022. Oil on canvas. 72" x 36".
Shown at the Memorial Art Gallery's 68th Annual Fingerlakes Artists Juried Show in 2023.
This painting is part of a small, three painting series featuring my brothers as the models. My brother stands in a scene filled with foliage.
The title, "A Curl for Every Vice" is commenting on the tie between his curly red hair and the red gasoline can. Potentially, the purple sky is the aftermath of the gas can being used. Or maybe implies he is a "firey red-head."
This piece is also an examination of and love letter to color and oil paint. The wide variety of greens for the foliage contracts from the main figure, the purple sky, and even the red tinted shadows.
